Ireland's Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications is seeking applications for its 2024-25 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champions Programme. The program aims to appoint organisations and groups across Ireland to raise awareness of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and demonstrate how everyone can contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The program has already engaged 34 diverse organisations as Champions, including Musgrave, The GAA, and University of Galway. Last year's program saw high interest with over 80 applications, from which 26 Champions were selected.
Minister Eamon Ryan emphasised that the SDGs are fundamental to improving quality of life and are closely linked to climate justice. The program provides organisations an opportunity to showcase their work towards achieving the SDGs and share their experiences at local and national levels.
Interested organisations can submit applications in written or video format until 5pm on April 1, 2024. The SDGs, adopted by the UN in 2015, consist of 17 interconnected goals covering areas such as poverty reduction, education, health, gender equality, and clean energy.
