Unlocking Nature Positive Private Investment
Innovate UK is offering up to £2 million for innovation projects that aim to facilitate private investment in nature-positive initiatives. This funding is part of a larger £7 million Integrating Finance and Biodiversity for a Nature Positive Future (IFB) programme, led by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
The competition focuses on four key themes:
- Data, tools, models and metrics
- Environmental monitoring and investment verification
- Insurance solutions
- Project aggregation tools to attract finance
Projects must address existing barriers to private investment in nature, including:
- Limited revenue sources from nature-based projects
- High transaction costs
- Lack of standards for risk assessment
- Underdeveloped project pipeline and supply chain
The competition is competitive, meaning not all qualifying projects will necessarily receive funding, even if they score highly. Applicants must submit their proposals by 11am UK time on the stated deadline.
This initiative aims to scale up nature-positive solutions by making them more attractive and accessible to private investors.
